Christmas Events:

We’ve started our Advent series: Awkward Christmas. We’re collecting your favorite awkward family Christmas photographs. Share them with us by email between now and January 1 by sending them to info@therockseward.org

On Sunday, December 12, The Rock will host a Forever Family Reunion meal after worship.  It will be Christmas turkey dinner and all the fixings to go along with it.  The congregation is encouraged to bring Christmas cookies to share with everyone as a dessert.

Our Christmas Eve gathering will be at 5:30pm and will include candles and singing.  There is no worship gathering on Christmas Day.  Our normal gathering / time will occur on the Sundays of December 26 & January 2.

Ministry Plan Focus Areas:  Directors and Ambassadors have elevated four 2021-22 Ministry Plan initiatives for focused action planning and progress.  Key initiatives include the following: 1) facilitating four active Huddle Groups; 2) hosting bridge events to connect The Rock with our community; 3) identifying and supporting passionate leaders for HS youth; and 4) exploring additional ministry opportunities through the BVCA partnership.  Even as these four areas receive priority attention, rest assured the entire ministry plan will guide the efforts of The Rock.  You can bless God’s work in this place by participating on one of the working groups—contact pastor@therockseward.org to learn more.

Replenishing the Building Fund: This year, The Rock has invested over $28,000 on facility-related initiatives for maintenance and improvements, including the Blue Valley partnership building renovation and needed enhancements to the facility and grounds.  Thanks be to God, over $19,000 has been contributed to make these improvements.  Nonetheless, The Rock’s building fund, now hovering at about $20,000, needs a boost of $15,000 to restore it to previous levels and fund 2021-22 initiatives.  If you are in a position to make an additional gift to the Building Fund this year, large or small, it will bless The Rock’s ministry.

New snow blower in search of service-minded humans:  We have a new, powerful snow blower to clear sidewalks this winter (as well as a smaller unit)!  We are in need of volunteers to serve on a side-walk clearing crew.  Weekend (for Sundays) and week-day slots are open.  Even if you can only help on occasion, please contact danna.seevers@gmail.com to discuss how you can help.

The Monday night women’s Bible Study group (led by Andrea Sloup and Sara Moll) will be starting a new study in January and you are invited! Beginning on January 10, 2022, we will meet on Monday evenings from 7pm to 8:30pm in Room 217 at the Rock. We will be doing the following study:  “Control Girl: Lessons on Surrendering Your Burden of Control from Seven Women in the Bible,” by Shannon Popkin. Women of all ages are welcome! The study is designed to be 6 weeks long but it might take longer than 6 weeks depending on whether we need to take extra time on any of the material. Text Sara Moll (402-641-4200) or Andrea Sloup (402-641-7221) if you would like to join the group or if you have any questions. The books cost $9.50 and are available to purchase at The Rock.

Rock News: Prayer Guide for the Guatemala Mission Team’s Trip

November 2021 – The Rock Guatemala Mission Team Prayer List

As the date for our trip arrives quickly, we have had many things to be grateful for and many things that we should continue to pray for. There is power in prayer and it would mean a great deal to our team if you could join us in this mission through prayer. We appreciate your time and blessings towards us, our mission, and the people of Guatemala.

General Prayer Requests:

  • Prepared hearts, ones that are ready to serve and share Christ’s love as well as endure a new culture and surroundings.
  • Safe travels, to and from Guatemala, as well as in country transportation.
  • A bridge between the language barrier, that we may learn new ways of communication to be able to connect with and meet new people.
  • Please pray for our families back home.
  • Team chemistry, please pray for our team as we are composed of a variety of persons. Pray that we encourage and grow with one another on this trip.
  • Good sleep and good health and no COVID!

Specific Daily Prayers:

Monday, November 22 – Bless our Vacation Bible School program, our teen ministry, and ladies ministry over the next 4 days. Renew relationships that have started on previous trips.

Tuesday, November 23 – Continue praying for our ministry efforts. Pray for meaningful relationships for everyone we come into contact with today. Pray for blessings for Dr. Elry, Liz, and Samy and the mission and ministry of Santa Cruz.

Wednesday, November 24 – Keep the team healthy and full of energy from the spirit to continue our work today. God’s presence with our team dynamics. Please pray for the Guatemalans—bless them and their families.

Friday, November 26 – Please give us safe travel to/from the volcano we plan to hike today with the teens from Amatitlan. Bless our time together and relationships as we experience God’s beauty of Guatemala. Bless our evening of fellowship with the teens during our devotion and bonfire.

Saturday, November 27 – Please give us safe travel to Antigua where the team can experience some of the beauty, history and culture of Guatemala. Give us great joy in our new relationships and experiences as a team. Bless debriefing time and allow Your spirit to fill us with new goals to serve You upon our return home. Please grant us negative COVID tests so we can return to the United States tomorrow.

Sunday, November 28 – Bless our travel home and reorientation into our busy, materialistic society. Renew the faith of all members of our team and prepare them to share the great work we were able to see God doing this week.

We have an opportunity to bless Rev. Rich and Diana Boring with some meals starting this Saturday as she recovers from surgery. Rich and Diana have a number of dietary restrictions (no carbs: no rice, bread, potatoes, pasta) so they stick to basic meat and veggies. (and Valentino’s gluten free hamburger pizza!) If you’re interested in signing up, the link for the Meal Train is here: https://mealtrain.com/2ve3y5

If you or someone in your family is in need of assistance like this during a time of illness or grief, please contact us at info@therockseward.org so our community can be a blessing to you. Would you like to be visited in the hospital or have pastor visit a loved one? Contact Pastor Mike at pastor@therockseward.org so he knows where and when to visit.

Please pray for the Guatemala mission team as they prepare to leave for their trip. Pray for: safe travel and good health for the team; that the people they visit with would have open hearts to hear the Gospel; and that the team would have many opportunities to be the hands and feet of Christ.

Ministry gift from St. John Lutheran Church: At their October meeting, The Rock’s Directors learned the welcome news of a $7,000 gift received from St. John Lutheran church. The gift, given from St. John Foundation funds, was designated to assist The Rock with construction costs for the Blue Valley Community Action project.  The gift has already been applied to construction bills associated with readying the building for Blue Valley’s occupancy.  What a blessing! Our ministry is immensely blessed by our sincere and meaningful partnership with St. John Lutheran Church, School and Child Development Center in Seward.  Thanks be to God!

A Meal Train sign up has been started for the family of Kim Klintworth, who passed away after battling cancer, to assist her husband Dan and their two daughters as they grieve. The family has no food allergies or restrictions. Information about delivery of meals and dates are found on the sign up page. https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/goow4l

The Rock is pleased to announce that we have been able to improve our lighting in worship because of the Esther 4:14 National Grant provided by The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod this summer. The new lighting has improved the clarity of our broadcast, eliminating the shadows on Pastor Mike, and making the lighting more even on him and the band. We are grateful to have been given this grant and for the blessing it has been, especially to those worshipping online.

We are looking for volunteers who are interested in learning how to manage the audio-visual, livestream, and lighting console on Sunday mornings. It can be fun, you won’t miss worship, and we’ll teach you everything you need to know! Contact Pastor Mike or Tim Moll.

Good Shepherd, Milford will be hosting a free will donation Soup Supper on Sunday, November 14th from 5-7 PM. They will serve chicken noodle soup, chili, and vegetable beef soup. Each meal includes crackers, veggies, dessert, and drink.

Concordia’s Mission Minded Students group is sponsoring an Operation Christmas Child collection on the Concordia campus. Collection boxes are up in Thom lobby, Weller lobby, Janzow Dining Hall and Janzow Student Success Center. You can also pick up a shoebox and flyer on what type of items to donate.

Anyone can donate individual items (like toothbrushes, toys, school supplies, etc.) and leave in the collection boxes – or entire shoeboxes can be assembled. Deadline to donate items on campus is Wednesday, November 17. Need details on packing a shoebox and the ministry outreach efforts of Operation Christmas Child?

October is Pastor Appreciation Month and there are still 3 days left to express your appreciation! Pastor Appreciation should be more than just a designated event on the calendar but an encouragement to him in service to God and the Church. How can you participate?

  • Pray for your pastor daily.
  • Creatively communicate words of encouragement to your pastor for his service to God and the Church with a card.
  • Take special care to listen and respond to your pastor’s sermons.
  • Team up with your local Christian bookstore to recognize and honor your pastor by giving a gift card to purchase a book or other special items.
  • Send a Pastor Appreciation gift basket which includes thoughtful gifts for your pastor’s kids and your pastor’s wife.

The Rock News: October is Pastor Appreciation Month!

October is Pastor Appreciation Month.  Pastor Appreciation should be more than just a designated event on the calendar but an encouragement to him in service to God and the Church. How can you participate?

  1. Pray for your pastor daily.
  2. Creatively communicate words of encouragement to your pastor for his service to God and the Church with a card.
  3. Take special care to listen and respond to your pastor’s sermons.
  4. Team up with your local Christian bookstore to recognize and honor your pastor by giving a gift card to purchase a book or other special items.
  5. Send a Pastor Appreciation gift basket which includes thoughtful gifts for your pastor’s kids and your pastor’s wife.
  6. Be aware of the unique needs of the pastor’s children by providing financial help for camp, youth group retreats or missionary trips.
  7. Invite them to a dinner or party with your family and friends

This only scratches the surface of what you can do to show your appreciation to pastor and his family for their service to God, Forever Family at The Rock, and community.

We have a lot of news this week!

Join us for an Italian Food Potluck, September 19: Join us for an Italian-themed forever family lunch after the service. Bring your favorite Italian dish to share. Breadsticks, caesar salad, dessert, drinks, and tableware provided.

Stepping Stones and FaithInk to start again tomorrow night. Learn more and sign your kids up on our website: Stepping Stones for children ages 3 to grade 4 / FaithInk confirmation class for grades 5 to 8 / Godparents groups for grades 9-12.

If anyone would like more information on potentially helping with Stepping Stones, email therocksteppingstones@gmail.com for more information. Stepping Stones isn’t just run by teachers–classroom helpers would be a huge help and blessing to our teachers!

Stepping Stones is also looking for donations for supplies. We are currently in need of new crayons, washable markers, glue sticks, and play-doh. A donation box is located in the café. You can also make monetary donations for our supply needs and future projects. (Include a note with your donation that says “stepping stones” so we know where to designate it.) On behalf of Stepping Stones we appreciate the generosity and thank you in advance for your support!
