Rock News

Dear Friends:

It’s not really late-breaking, but it is kind of late. Here’s your Rock news for the week:

  1. THIS SUNDAY: Last week, we took some time to remember and give thanks for the blessings of the last 10 years. Have you set up your rock as a memorial to help you remember one of God’s blessings to you? If not, there is no time like the present. You’ll be amazed at how much a simple visible reminder can help keep your focus in the right places during the week. Join us this Sunday for Week 2 of Remember and Give Thanks. We will take some time to remember and give thanks for the people God has used to bless us over the last 10 years. Invite your favorite person and your second favorite person and join us. ALSO, don’t forget your chance to dig a little deeper on Sunday mornings. Come to the Lied Senior Center a little early (at 8:45 a.m.) to participate in a new video-based discussion called, “The Bible On Trial: Beyond A Reasonable Doubt.”
  2. WELCOME BACK CONCORDIA! Concordia University begin its fall term this Monday so all kinds of students will be back in town starting this weekend (including one of the largest income classes ever – over 400!). Please give a warm welcome to all the students who join us over the coming weeks and months and please remember all the students and faculty and staff in your prayers. Concordia has been equipping students with a Christ-centered education since 1894. In all those years, God has used Concordia to send thousands of students into the church and world to join Jesus in His mission (it’s one of God’s own missionary-making machines :)).
  3. NATIONAL YOUTH GATHERING: The LCMS National Youth Gathering is next summer in New Orleans from July 16-20. The first informational meeting was held last Wednesday. The second meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 2 at 7pm at the Seward Civic Center. If you are at all interested, talk to Pastor Mike and then come to the next meeting on September 2. To learn more about the gathering, check out the information on this web site: www.lcmsgathering.com.
  4. JUST A FEW MORE CHAIRS! We are getting closer and closer to our goal of 300 chairs. That puts us at the best part of the chair-it-able campaign. We have enough chairs now to cover our current regular attendance at the Rock. That means the chairs we need now are for the new families who haven’t been to the Rock yet. Your donation of $50 for one of these last new chairs means that someone who hasn’t been connected to Jesus will sit in that chair, get comfortable and get connected to Jesus. How cool is that?
  5. WORK NIGHT WEDNESDAY! Wednesday work nights continue at the new Rock. Please head over to the new Rock at 237 S. 3rd to help out from 5pm to 8pm or so.
  6. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: The Rock is helping with the current Habitat for Humanity house in Utica. The first work day for the Rock was today. There is another one coming up on August 29. Interested in helping? See Pastor Mike or email him at pastor@therockseward.org.
  7. FAMILY PICNIC ON SEPTEMBER 9: Everyone (including families from Stepping Stones, Faith Ink, and Godparents) is invited to join us at Plum Creek Park on the West Side by the Tennis Courts for a picnic to kick off Wednesday night activities this fall. Sloppy Joes and table service will be provided. Each family is asked to bring a side dish to share and their own beverages. Families may want to bring lawn chairs and blankets too. (In the event of rain, we will meet Sunday, Sept. 13th). Also, don’t forget to check out the web site www.therockseward.org for more information about Stepping Stones, Faith Ink, Godparents and how you can register.
  8. BLUE VALLEY PANTRY: GRAB SOME CANNED FRUIT!!! The Pantry is running low on canned fruit and needs to be restocked. Grab some cans and drop them off at the Rock this Sunday.

Blessings on your weekend.

Tim Moll

Rock News

Dear Friends:

Here’s your Rock news for the week:

  1. THIS SUNDAY:  As we get closer to a new facility and a new chapter in the history of the Rock, it is a good time to stop and give thanks for all of God’s blessings.  The first meeting to talk about a new church in Seward (which eventually became the Rock) happened ten years ago.  What has happened in your life over the last 10 years?  Looking back, can you see God’s hand in the good times and the bad?  What stories do you have to tell your children and family?  Join us this Sunday for week 1 of “Remember and Give Thanks.”  We’ll take some time to remember and give thanks for God’s goodness to the Rock and to all of us over the last 10 years.  Want to get a jump start?  Read Joshua 4.
  2. GOING DEEPER:  Don’t forget your chance to dig a little deeper on Sunday mornings.  Come to the Lied Senior Center a little early (at 8:45 a.m.) to participate in a new video-based discussion called, “The Bible On Trial:  Beyond A Reasonable Doubt.”
  3. NATIONAL YOUTH GATHERING:  The LCMS National Youth Gathering is next summer in New Orleans from July 16-20.  There will be an informational meeting for youth and their parents this coming Wednesday, August 19 at 7pm at the Seward Civic Center to learn more about the gathering and to talk about sending a group from the Rock.  If you’re not sure if you are interested, come to learn more.  To learn more about the gathering, check out the information on this web site:  www.lcmsgathering.com.
  4. ACCESS THE ROCK: Do you want to know more about what the Rock is all about and what we teach and believe?  Are you interested in finding out what it means to a member of the Rock?  Plan to join us for the next Access the Rock time from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 pm on Sunday, August 23.  We’ll meet right at the Lied Senior Center and pizza and drinks will be provided.  If you have questions or if you would like to attend, please respond to this email or talk to Pastor Mike on Sunday or message Pastor Mike on the Rock’s facebook page.
  5. WORK NIGHT WEDNESDAY!  There is still lots to do.  Please head over to the new Rock at 237 S. 3rd to help out.  Work time usually runs from 5pm to 8pm or so.
  6. CHAIR-IT-ABLE CONTRIBUTIONS.  We need 66 chairs to finish up and have 300 chairs for the new Rock.  For only $50 (that’s the same amount you would pay to buy 50 cups of coffee or about 3 lattes at Starbucks), you can help the poor and the tired and the seatless find a good place to sit at the new Rock.  Thanks to all those who have already been so generous.  If you haven’t given already, please help get us over the top.
  7. WOMEN OF FAITH.  This year’s Women of Faith conference is August 28-29 at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln.  We currently have 30 women signed up to go (praise God!).  There are a few tickets left at the price of $84.45 to sit in the lower section with the group from the Rock.   If you are interested please contact Sue Briggs at 402-430-9158 or sbriggscm@gmail.com.  This is the farewell tour after 20 years so don’t miss out!  Want to know more about the conference?  Click here:  http://www.womenoffaith.com/events2/lincoln/.

Rock News

Dear Friends:

Here’s your Rock news for the week:

  1. THIS SUNDAY:  Feeling like you’re always busy?  Did you stop reading in the middle of this email to check a text message?  Are you reading this email on your smart phone in the bathroom because it’s the only place to get a little peace?  Well, take a little time to join us this Sunday at 10:00 a.m. at the Lied Senior Center.  Pastor Rich Boring will be leading us and will focus on what God’s Word has to say about the busy-ness we struggle with daily.  Come get a cup of coffee and relax with us (and bring your busy friends and family).
  2. JOINING JESUS:  The series is done, but don’t forget to keep working on the five practices from Joining Jesus on His Mission.  Keep at it and you’ll see Jesus popping out all over the place in your daily life.  As a reminder, the five mission practices are: seeking the Kingdom, hearing from Jesus, talking with people, doing good, and ministering through prayer.  If you haven’t gotten a copy of the book (Joining Jesus on His Mission by Greg Finke), respond to this email and we’ll help get you a copy.  Or, you can pick it up on Amazon.
  3. WORK NIGHT WEDNESDAYS.  Wednesdays are the normal work night at the new Rock so please come and help when you can.  There is painting and lots of other things to work on.  The new Rock is at 237 S. 2nd and work time usually runs from 5pm to 8pm or so.
  4. CHAIR-IT-ABLE CONTRIBUTIONS.  We’re getting close to our goal of 300 chairs!  If you haven’t participated yet, now would be a great time to step up (or sit down) and contribute!  Big thanks to all those you have already generously contributed.
  5. MORNING AMIGOS.  The morning amigos ladies’ bible study group meets on Thursdays from 10:15 am to 11:30 am at the Seward Civic Center, Room 2.  On July 30 and continuing through September 10, the ladies are doing a study called, “The Mended Heart – God’s Healing for Your Broken Places,” by Suzanne Eller.  All ladies are welcome.  There are two books still available.  Respond to this email or see Sara Moll if you would like one of the remaining books.  You can join the study or just read along with the group and come when you can.
